It is very easy for this to be our first reaction when faced with new opportunities. Time is precious and demands are high, and therefore it is understandable to want to know what the immediate benefits will be; especially if decisions have to be justified to other people.
The problem with this way of thinking, is that the world doesn’t always work like this. The immediate benefits are not always clear to us. Sometimes we have to play the long game. Every idea or opportunity has a gestation period, in the same way that nature follows natural laws, rush it and we lose out through impatience or take too much time and we lose out through inactivity. The secret is to know what your purpose is, assess the facts and most important is to trust your intuition.
So, the next time you think ‘what’s in it for me?’, remember that your return could be months or even years away and could be more life-changing than you ever imagined.
