The difference between wanting and needing

Standard

A few days ago, a friend of mine said this to me,

“The Universe doesn’t give us what we want. It gives us what we need.”

My initial reaction was that the statement hardly sounded encouraging! However, the more I thought about it the more it seemed to make some kind of sense. It is very easy for us to become so focussed on what we want to get/achieve/gain/win in the future that we can miss what is happening in the present. What have we got this very minute? What does what we have right now tell us about what we want in the future? Are there signs that may suggest that we need to evaluate what we want in the future?

Right Now is the future from a second ago, and therefore we should value it highly.
