On Friday last week, I filmed the COO of Rok, Rob Olorenshaw, as he talked about how sportspeople could best prepare themselves for careers after professional sport. One of the themes he picked up on was the importance of following your passion.
This is such an important point which is often overlooked. In some ways, we are encouraged to assess careers in terms of their stability and the potential opportunities they provide for wealth and position.
But are these really the qualities we should be judging success against? Are these the key to happiness?
If we look at the bigger picture we will appreciate the cold truth that our time on this planet is short and extremely precious. I would suggest that taking time to uncover the talents and passions that make us unique and finding or even better creating an outlet for these to be expressed would be a more fulfilling and valuable contribution.
